BIOGRAPHY
Maesie Halliday is an artist whose love of the north woods in Montana, where she was born and raised, led her to the cedars and douglas firs of Washington, where she attended college, and then to the spruce and birch forests of Downeast Maine, where she currently resides. She uses detail-oriented research skills acquired through her Humanities: History of Culture B.A. from Western Washington University to bring scientific accuracy to her illustrations, and is in the process of earning a Natural Science Illustration Certificate from Rhode Island School of Design.

Whenever possible, Maesie, a professional photographer, uses her own reference photos in creating her illustrations. She is passionate about directly observing the plants and animals she paints in their natural habitats.

Maesie’s art is inspired by her delighted fascination with the beautifully complex more-than-human world. Her work is a manifestation of her own curiosity, close attention, and care for the environment and its creatures. Maesie aims to work alongside individuals and organizations who promote conservation, stewardship, and scientific research.
